The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Model Smart School in Niger State, though originally a flagship project of the Federal Government, has unfortunately fallen into a state of dilapidation in recent years.
Recognizing the critical role such an institution plays in advancing education, Governor Umaru Bago has directed that the facility be fully renovated and restored to its original purpose.
The UBEC Smart School is unlike conventional schools. It was designed as a hub of technology-driven learning, where:
1. Every child is equipped with a personal laptop and tablet, giving them access to digital content and interactive lessons.
2. All classrooms are fitted with smart learning boards, enabling teachers to deliver multimedia-based lessons seamlessly.
3. 24 hour internet connectivity ensures uninterrupted access to global knowledge resources.
4. Solar power systems provide sustainable and reliable electricity to keep all facilities running.
Beyond these features, the school also serves as a centre for teacher training, digital content creation, and innovative learning practices, a model meant to be replicated across the state.
Governor Bago’s commitment to reviving this project is an indication of his broader vision for transforming basic education in Niger State. Alongside this renovation, the state government is constructing 6 new model schools across the state as a pilot scheme, further demonstrating his resolve to build a strong foundation for the future of education.
Niger State is getting set to reposition itself as a leader in smart, technology-enabled education, ensuring that children have access not only to classrooms, but to the tools and skills needed to learn in a good environment.
